A lot of the human children mistreat animals for fun. Poor Maki-kun is often played with for being so small and his shell makes him a target.

I presume Maki is another friend of yours. What type of animal might he be? [An oyster perhaps? Or a crab or a snail?]

Oh. Yes, he's a hermit crab, so he's very small.

[Because he doubts Mikuni had human friends if they treated animals so poorly.]

Oh, Tatsumi-kun is a human. He's a rare nice child that Wakasa-kun moved in with.

Ah.I have had some encounters with their kind back in my world but mostly with the females.

Yes, I met one the last time I went on vacation. I had one in my shop for a brief time as well.

If you are concerned for the animals, I never force any of them to leave the shop. They only do so when they find a suitable human to live with.
