[He gestures to the table and then goes to retrieve some plates and his basket of cookies.]

They are my children here in Holly Heights. They're very sweet children.

[ If he's fine with Mikuni leaving the chair wet afterward, he'll just go ahead and sit. ]

I presume that they're not animals like you? [There seemed to be relatively few animal people here.]

[ Though Renge can be a handful, and Aone is a mountain. ]

[ Sake is his favourite, but he does like various types of tea as well. ]

I see. There do appear to be a large number of teenagers in this town.

[And he's putting the kettle on the stove and fetching the teapot and tea leaves now.]

Yes, there really is. So many of them are nice though, not at all like children in my own world.

[And with a nod, he continues preparing the tea. As it steeps, he spoons some sugar into his cup but pauses, recalling how Leon would yell at him for putting sugar into his tea.]

A lot of the human children mistreat animals for fun. Poor Maki-kun is often played with for being so small and his shell makes him a target.

[ It's sad, really. ]

[He'll add just a little to Mikuni's cup then.]

I presume Maki is another friend of yours. What type of animal might he be? [An oyster perhaps? Or a crab or a snail?]

[ Young animals could have their faults, but it was human children that Mikuni feared. ]

Oh. Yes, he's a hermit crab, so he's very small.

[And he's pouring the tea now and setting the cup in front of his guest.]

Yes. I've heard that when he first met Tatsumi-kun he was saved by him from children using him as a football.

How horrid. I do hope your friend was okay afterwards. I presume Tatsumi was another friend of yours. What type of creature was he?

[Because he doubts Mikuni had human friends if they treated animals so poorly.]

Oh, Tatsumi-kun is a human. He's a rare nice child that Wakasa-kun moved in with.

Ah, I see. But who is Wakasa?

[Another friend of Mikuni's he presumes but an animal or a human?]

Ah.I have had some encounters with their kind back in my world but mostly with the females.

[And he helps himself to a cookie. He'll wrap some up later for Mikuni to take home for the children.]

You have? I know mostly mermen rather than mermaids.

Yes, I met one the last time I went on vacation. I had one in my shop for a brief time as well.

[And he won't mention that one ended up eating the customer he sold it to...]

If you are concerned for the animals, I never force any of them to leave the shop. They only do so when they find a suitable human to live with.

Oh. Well, at least that's good. How do they end up in your shop in the first place though?
